MrBeast and Mark Rober, known influencers across multiple social media platforms, have started their sea cleaning project at the Gringo Beach in the Dominican Republic. This project is called Team Seas, and it’s based on donations; for every dollar that is donated, both influencers will remove one pound of plastic and different wastes that are found in the sea and different areas. This project has the goal of removing 30 million pounds of waste from the ocean before the year 2022.

Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has 70 million YouTube subscribers while Mark Rober has 20 million subscribers. MrBeast is famous for making insane dares, which normally involve huge amounts of money for the winner and players part of the making of the video. Mark Rober, on the other hand, is famous for his fun and extreme science projects and many more creative ideas. Both have united with many more influencers to promote Team Seas.

As for the first part of the cleaning project they started cleaning in “Playa Gringo”, Haina, San Cristóbal, and the “Fuente San Gil” in the National District, the Dominican Republic, which is said to be one of the dirtiest beaches in the world. Since so much work can’t be done by so few people, they have asked “Fundación Vida Azul”, their president being the local, Oscar Oviedo, for help in this initiative. This foundation helps society by cleaning beach environments in the area, and many volunteers contribute to cleaning these commonly used spaces by the population. It is estimated that 100,000 pounds of trash were removed from the environment.

Team Seas is now participating in the Ocean Conservancy organization that has been going on for 14 years and that specializes in the cleaning of oceans. Over a hundred countries are chosen to create beach cleaning groups, with the motive of having cleaner ocean environments for the population of this country and for helping the planet to be cleaner while helping to eliminate wastes in the oceanic environment.

As for the recently made initiative, from October 17th to the 20th of this year, it is estimated that 2,000 people helped clean the beach. In the videos, it is possible to see the three objectives of the campaign, removing waste from beaches, oceans, and rivers. Adding to this, in “El Río Ozama”, there was a boat installed that gathers all the waste found on the river. This by the Dutch organization, The Ocean Clean Up, directed by Boyan Slat, who got into the project through Mark Rober’s platforms. This installation got help from Dominican Navy agents. This project got the help of the UN in its initiative and different processes. Here the UN made contact with the Dominican government to help the initiative.

This initiative had a purpose to change the awareness of people in the respective project, not only to clean beaches. By sharing all the processes of cleaning the beaches through social media platforms, it helps create awareness of the planet’s contamination, which is the result of wastes created by us humans. We can all help in this cause by donating, reducing our wastes, and volunteering to help clean beaches in our communities.
